Joff Lowson began playing Traditional American music at the age of 5, learning banjo from the Pete Seeger book and also teaching himself guitar. At 15 he was fortunate to attend a workshop with legendary melodic banjo player Bill Keith and then hooked up with the Jalapeno Pickers, widely regarded as the UK's top bluegrass act in the late 80s/ early 90s. Joff also played guitar in a number of rock acts and played one of the main stages at Glastonbury festival with the Blue Aeroplanes, toured Europe with the Coal Porters and has recently performed as a dep with Hayseed Dixie. He has played live on national radio in the UK, Holland and Slovenia.
Joff has recently completed a teacher training course with the world's top banjo teacher Peter Wernick and is now a Wernick certified teacher of Bluegrass music. He is currently involved in running music workshops and plays regularly around the UK with Old-Time country string band the Buffalo Gals, also appearing occasionally with Patsy Cline tribute act the Antique Popsters.
